EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE INSTRUCTOR
The EFR Instructor Course
provides qualified individuals with the additional training necessary to teach the Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) and EFR Secondary Care (First Aid) courses. This course builds on the candidates' skills as primary and secondary care providers and focuses on developing their instructional abilities. Through independent study, classroom sessions and practice teaching assignments, candidates learn to conduct the Emergency First Response program.
Effective March 2009, all new PADI Instructors will need to be current Emergency First Response Instructors or hold another current first aid and CPR instructor credential. Currently first aid and CPR provider-level training is required for new instructors; however, this change raises the bar by requiring instructor-level CPR and first aid skills.

The Emergency First Response Instructor Course goals are to:
- Assure that inst. candidates understand the EFR program structure, requirements and procedures.
- Familiarize inst. candidates with the EFR program philosophy and prepare them to teach courses that bare low-stress, performance-based and learning-centred.
- Refine inst. candidates' primary and secondary care skills to a role-model level.
- Provide inst. candidates with practical suggestions for organizing and marketing their EFR courses.
- Encourage inst. candidates to be active EFRI's and to use their skills to train others in the community.
The EFRI Care for Children Course provides qualified individuals with the additional training necessary to teach the Emergency Responders infant and child patient care skills. This course builds on the candidate's emergency care background and focuses on developing the necessary skills for infant and child care. Through independent study, classroom sessions and practice teaching assignments, instructor candidates learn to conduct the EFR Care for Children program.
